# Annalist: Full Guide for Language Models > Company fundamentals collected from official filings, checked against each other and published as versioned snapshots. Every figure carries the id of its source document. ## What Annalist Publishes Each company has a series of immutable snapshots. A snapshot id such as FY2026Q2_0a602300 names the latest fiscal quarter it contains and the first eight characters of the SHA-256 of its dataset; a change in any figure, source or method gives a new snapshot id, so a citation of a snapshot stays reproducible. https://annalist.io/api/v1/companies/{company}/latest.json names the latest snapshot of a company. Sources are official documents only: the annual and interim reports that each company files with its securities regulator or publishes for its investors. Each value names the document it comes from. ## Conventions - Units are given for every item, in the currency of the company: for example USD, USD/shares, shares, JPY mn (million yen) and %. - Figures are as reported, not scaled. Revenue, expenses, taxes and payments are positive amounts, and the operating, investing and financing cash-flow totals are negative when cash flows out; a bank that presents expenses and losses as negative keeps its presentation, as the conventions of its dataset state. - Fiscal years carry the company's own label, so a fiscal year can end in any month. Every row gives its start and end dates. - Methods: a figure is reported, or derived where it is calculated from figures of the documents listed, as most fourth quarters are. Each item keeps one definition across the periods of a company. - Restatements: each value is taken from the latest document that reports the period; values that documents report differently are listed in restatements.csv. - Changes on one basis: a change against a year earlier, growth ratios included, compares 2 figures as the latest report that presents both gives them. Where these are not the published figures, the row of the later quarter or fiscal year gives them under comparison in dataset.json, with their sources. - Withheld values: a value that contradicts the definition of its item, or that the documents report in contradiction, is empty and listed in withheld of dataset.json with its reason and sources; ratios that need it are empty. ## Statements and Items Statements: income_statement (quarterly and annual), balance_sheet (at each quarter end), cash_flow (quarterly and annual), and for banks capital, npl, shares and annual_highlights. Banks (Mizuho) use the bank template of 66 ratios: quarterly values annualise flows (quarter x 4) over average opening and closing balances, and annual values use fiscal-year sums. US companies use the corporate template of 68 ratios in annual, quarterly and trailing-four-quarter (ttm) forms. Percentages are published as percentages (7.5 means 7.5%). A ratio is left out where it would not be meaningful, for example with negative equity, and ratios that would need market prices are not published. ## Analysis Modules The corporate template carries 4 analysis modules. Credit metrics (categories Credit metrics; ids such as corp.lease_adjusted_debt, corp.adjusted_ebitda, corp.ffo, corp.debt_to_ebitda, corp.ffo_to_debt, corp.ffo_interest_cover) follow S&P and Moody's definitions as far as filings allow: lease-adjusted debt adds operating lease liabilities to total debt, before the deduction of cash; adjusted EBITDA adds goodwill impairment, share-based compensation and operating lease cost to EBIT plus depreciation and amortisation; FFO deducts cash interest, lease interest and cash taxes. For a company that reports operating lease liabilities, a lease-adjusted value is absent for a period whose lease liabilities or lease cost are not reported. Liquidity and maturities (corp.liquidity_cover, corp.debt_due_12m, corp.maturity_concentration), earnings quality (corp.cash_flow_accruals, corp.sloan_accruals, corp.rsst_accruals, corp.cfo_to_ebitda, corp.fcf_to_net_income, corp.working_capital_investment) and forensic and distress scores (corp.altman_z2, corp.beneish_m, corp.dechow_f, corp.piotroski_f, unit score) complete the set. Values of the scores, of the credit reconciliations (lease-adjusted debt, adjusted EBITDA, FFO) and of the liquidity cover carry parts: unscaled components keyed by part id; the catalogue gives each part its name and a coefficient (sums and scores) or a side (sources or uses of the liquidity cover). The findings rules corp.credit_band (band of the S&P standard volatility table), corp.liquidity_cover, corp.cash_backing, corp.altman_zone, corp.beneish_threshold and corp.piotroski_score state the results of the modules. Bands, zones and scores are outputs of published methods and are not credit ratings. ## Corporate Events The dataset of each US company lists events, found by fixed rules in its SEC filings since 2020: types spin_off, acquisition, disposal, acquisition_or_disposal, reorganisation, discontinued_operations, cash_acquisitions, cash_disposals, stock_split, reverse_split, restatement, non_reliance, name_change and fiscal_year_change. Each event gives its date and date basis (stated in the filing, filing date, or period end), its fiscal period, a sentence, a counterparty where the filing names one with its legal form, an amount where one applies, its rule and rule version, and its source document ids. Rules: Form 8-K items 2.01 and 4.02 (the text of item 2.01 decides the type), former names in EDGAR, transition reports, stock split ratios and earnings per share restated by a whole factor, discontinued operations of at least 1% of revenue, acquisitions paid in cash of at least 5% and disposals of at least 2% of opening total assets, and revenue restated by at least 2%. ## Key Findings and Their History Key findings are sentences written by fixed rules (ids such as corp.revenue_yoy, corp.net_debt, corp.credit_band, bank.guidance_progress) from the figures of a snapshot, so a model that quotes a finding quotes the figures of the filing behind it, and the same snapshot always gives the same findings. Each rule in findings.json names its module (overview, credit, liquidity, quality or scores). Each finding makes a claim (for example higher: the measure is above its value a year earlier) on a signed measure, and states its figures with their source ids. findings.json of a company holds its append-only ledger: one record per step of a thread (one claim of one rule) with a state (New, Confirmed, Strengthened, Weakened, Retired), a change type (initial, data update, restatement, methodology, wording), the rule version, the snapshot and a basis. Records marked reconstructed were derived, when the ledger was opened, from the figures of the snapshot named as at the end of earlier quarters; records marked recorded were written from each published snapshot. A thread is Strengthened or Weakened when claim polarity times measure moves by more than the band of its rule, otherwise Confirmed. ## Validation Every snapshot passes its error-level checks before publication. Mizuho: cross-checks between official documents (cumulative Tanshin against supplement quarters, quarters against the annual P&L, highlights against the balance sheet, balance-sheet identities), line-by-line comparisons of Tanshin balance sheets with the supplement, NPL ratio checks and share-count agreements. US companies: total assets equal total liabilities and equity at every date, reported quarters add up to the reported nine-month figure, and the filer in SEC data is the configured company; structure, gross profit, EPS and coverage checks are warnings. validation.json in each snapshot lists every check. ## How to Cite Annalist, {company name}, snapshot {company id}/{snapshot id} (as of {period}); {item label}, {period}; source {document id} ({document url}).
